Happy New Year!

Instead of taking our chances on city fun this New Year's Eve, Tabitha, Nava and I set out for the mountains of the Northern Cape to camp for a few days.
We got within 5 miles of the campground and were stopped because the mountain was on fire. We waited in this queue with about 35 other cars until it was safe to pass through the road.
There about 300 people at this campsite, apparently we were not the only Cape Townites with the idea to camp on NYE.

Helicopter putting the fire out.

Nava in one of the many rock pools. It was blazing hot!

As pointed out by my grandmother in a recent email, on New Year's Eve there was a partial lunar eclipse AND a blue moon (can you handle?) and we saw it all! So beautiful!

This was taken on the day that it was so hot all we could manage to do was sit under this tree and eat ice cream... literally from sunrise to sunset we sat under this tree. (Thank you to my friend Karen, who brought the Khanga I'm sitting on back from Tanzania. Very sweet of her)
our campsite. That's Nava's little red VW.
