A couple of Sundays ago, Nava and her friends took me to Kulk Bay, a small town on the ocean. While there, we found this little gem. It's the Cape to Cuba restaurant and bar that sits right on the beach. We hung out in the evening breeze there for several hours, it was very relaxing.
Seeing the paintings of Che Guavara, I was reminded of the role he played in the guerilla movements in the Congo in the 60's. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to organize the troops as successfully as he had in Cuba. Even so, this part of his life goes largely unnoticed, as does the signifcant role Cuba and Fidel played in the liberation of Angola from the Portuguese. Today, there are approximately 50,000 Cuban soldiers buried in Angola. Fidel Castro called it Cuba's "internationalist duty" to save thier brothers in Africa. However, the U.S. saw Cuba's aid in Africa as the spread of communism and squashed the revolution's effort with all its might. It was, afterall the height of the cold war.
